Department: Management Services Reports to: Community Manager Supervises: N/A Status: Non-Exempt Shift: N/A Purpose of the Job Lifeguards are employed to create a safe environment where people can enjoy swimming, without having to fear about falling into the water or hurting themselves. Lifeguards typically, keep an eye out for people indulging in recreational activities in a pool. In the event of a mishap, they are responsible for performing lifesaving activities such as resuscitation and first aid. Essential Functions and Responsibilities • Ensure appropriate headcount of people involved in a watersport on an hourly basis • Call out warnings to people who may have ventured too far or are in imminent danger • Provide safety information to people prior to them indulging in a water sport • Supervise swimmers to ensure that they are swimming within the safety protocols • Spot hazards or potential hazards and take measures to prevent accidents • Control and report unruly behavior and evict individuals not adhering to behavior protocols • Ensure that water sports are done within the parameters of set rules and regulations • Perform rescues in the event of drowning or swimming accidents • Perform first aid and CPR according to the demands of adverse situations • Ensure that all pool equipment is stored safely and that any lost items are kept in a safe place Other Duties and Responsibilities • Assists with other tasks and projects as required Knowledge Skills and Abilities • Must be an excellent swimmer along with possessing certification in lifesaving particularly the Red Cross Advanced Lifesaving Certificate. Specific training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is also one of the prerequisites for this position. • Must demonstrate support of Bell Core Values • Available to work day and evening shifts, weekdays, and weekends • Must possess willingness and demonstrate ability to provide exceptional customer service • Must demonstrate ability to successfully work on a team Education and Background To obtain employment as a lifeguard, one has to be an excellent swimmer along with possessing certification in lifesaving particularly the Red Cross Advanced Lifesaving Certificate. Specific training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is also one of the prerequisites for this position.
