The Parks and Recreation Lifeguard monitors activities in and around the Community Recreation Center Pool facility or the Ross Park Aquatics Complex. This position requires applicants to be 16 years of age or older.
The job may require successful completion of a background check. The job requires the ability to maintain a collaborative and cooperative working relationship with elected and appointed officials, other City employees, other organizations, and the general public.
The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, in wet and humid conditions, with areas of dust, odors, mist, gases or other airborne matter. Employees work in/at places where they are exposed to chemical hazards. This position works: days, evenings, and weekends as required.
Positions in this classification include Lifeguard and Head Lifeguard.

Lifeguard (P02): Performs general pool and patron supervision including constant surveillance of patrons using the
Pool facility or the Aquatics Complex. Provides emergency care and treatment as required and maintains high standards of customer service during interactions with pool and facility patrons.
Head Lifeguard (P04): Under supervision of aquatics complex manager, performs professional duties to ensure effective performance of lifeguard functions, including assisting with lifeguard training, providing on-shift support, evaluating lifeguards, and ensuring that all lifeguards are fully competent in performing water rescue procedures. Performs overall coordination with aquatic center staff to ensure the safety of aquatic complex patrons in and around the pools/slides, and monitoring of swimmers to enforce all safety rules.

? High school diploma or
? American Red Cross Lifeguard certification required;
? 1-2 years/seasons of Lifeguarding and Swim Instructor experience may be required depending on position.
An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.
While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, climb ladders, work at heights, and in confined spaces. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with
